Create the shabby chic bathroom of your dreams.

Shabby chic interiors have been en vogue for a while now, and with good reason. The mix match of new and old creates a wonderfully romantic and whimsical feel, creating a sanctuary that's relaxing and peaceful - the perfect place to unwind. Here at SONAS Bathrooms we've got some amazing products that are perfect for creating this look. And with the right accessories and little touches, you can be sure your bathroom will become one of your favourite rooms in the house.

  1. A freestanding bath is the epitome of chic and we have lots of different options and styles available. We love the Duchess (€750) for its delicate claw feet and ornate details, and it conjures up images of romance and elegance.

2. We love the Kingston range of bathroom furniture. This vanity unit with Victoria basin (€749) is elegant, classic and will never go out of fashion. It comes in two colours - stone and chalk, which would both look fabulous in a shabby chic bathroom. We are particularly fond of the chalk - we love bright white for this look and the Kingston range also has gorgeous matching mirrors.

3. Don't be afraid to mix and match to add shabby to the mix. A distressed chair can look beautiful in your bathroom. Having a chair is practical, but it can also add splashes of colour. For a shabby chic look, think pastels, duck egg blues, faded reds, shades of peach and pink.

4. Go heavy on the accessories. Think candles, crystal jars for holding cotton balls, vintage lanterns for holding tea light candles. The list of what you can do to decorate your shabby chic bathroom is endless and you'll find gorgeous accessories in so many retailers. We love this lantern from Heatons and the glass jar from Laura Ashley.

5. Don't be afraid to put things on display. We tend to hide things away in cupboards or in the hotpress but keeping a nice collection of towels in an open storage basket or hanging them on one of our fabulous heated towel rails can add texture, colour and warmth to a room. We love florals and delicate prints. And the Chapel heated towel rail (€440) is perfect to show them off. chapel

6. Mix and match colours and patterns. The beauty of shabby chic is that it can look muddled up but still beautiful. Don't be afraid to clash colours and patterns. It adds to the eclectic beauty if you do it well. Hang something like this from Dunnes from the back of your door for your robe - which should be shabby chic too, of course!

7. Be bold with your floor tiles. Pick a lovely floral pattern or a vintage or Victorian tile, or even one with a distressed finish in true shabby chic style. We love these from Italian Tile and Stone and they come in various different colours. A wood effect but in porcelain tiles that will last for decades.
